Stockbridge’s Maetron Thomas is definitely a game changer.

The junior running back has evolved into a force to be reckoned with this season.

A prime example would be the regular season finale when Thomas paced the Tigers with two touchdowns in a 29-0 win over North Clayton.

“He’s a big time player for us, our big play maker,” said Tigers coach Kevin Whitley. “He’s been consistent all year — since our [preseason] scrimmage I knew he’d be a player for us … he’s really done a good job.

The 5 foot 10, 180-pound Thomas has been a key contributor among the team’s stable of talented backs.

His own ability to weaken opposing defenses while coming out of the backfield in more ways than one has earned high praise from the Tiger sideline this season.

“He’s got tremendous speed and great up-the-field moves,” said Whitley. “He can outrun you, make you miss … he’s very elusive.

“And he’s capable of breaking off that tough run for us when we need it.”

Thomas wasted little time in establishing himself as a go-to guy.

“From the very first game, he’s definitely shown us he can be the guy,” said Whitley. “He’s a quiet kid, keeps to himself.

“From a leadership standpoint, he doesn’t do a whole lot of talking … he just goes out there and does his job.”
