But the 6-foot-3 defensive star is adding a little offense to the mix this season. Through the Knights first six games Bean has posted a team-leading four goals, all while anchoring a defensive unit that has yielded just four goals all year — helping his team to a 4-2 start in the process.
“He has always had good size and been a great defender, but he has really evolved over the past two years into a complete player,” said Centennial coach Phil Thomas of Bean, who has signed to Amherst College, a Division III program in Massachusetts.
“He has worked hard to improve his athleticism and that has allowed him to be much more versatile and create [scoring] chances on the attack.”
With a powerful leg, Thomas said, Bean can fire from long range, but he does most of his offensive work by using his size and leaping ability on set pieces near the goal.
“That’s when we like to bring him up because his size poses a big threat. He has been a legitimate scoring weapon in every game this season.”
