At the GHSA State Championships in Carrollton, Reich completed the 5K race in 16 minutes and 26.81 seconds, placing him second in the state in AAAAAA.
“His drive, determination and goal setting motivated him to look at the entire season as one long build up to the state meet,” said Milton cross country coach Andy Carr. “After his performance last year he knew he was ready to challenge for a top-podium spot [this year].”
Reich finished sixth in the state a year ago and only trailed Peachtree Ridge runner Josh Bricknell — who posted the fastest time across all classifications — for the state title this fall.
The successful cross country season may also be a precursor to a strong spring on the track where Reich was a region champion in the 800-meters a year ago.
“Nate readily admits track is his first love, especially the 800 meters, but knew having strength to compete in cross country will benefit his racing at the 800,” said Carr. “Running is part of him he never stops trying to improve, research and study how to reach to get better.
“His passion for the sport is contagious!”
Currently uncommitted, Reich plans to compete in college and has a short list that includes Georgia, Texas Christian, Baylor, Arizona state and Ohio State.
