Charles Routt has helped keep Roswell among the top wrestling teams in the state in Class AAAAAA.

The senior has been dominant so far in the 160-pound weight class, compiling a 27-2 record with 18 pins this season. His only losses have come in close matches against a couple of state champions from last year – Gilmer’s Johnie Flakes and Bryson Popp of Baylor (Tenn.).

He won all three of his matches at 160 pounds in both the Area 5AAAAAA duals tournament Feb. 4 and the state duals in Macon last weekend as well as winning that weight class in a couple of big regular-season tournaments this season – the Woodstock Invitational Dec. 6 and the Coal MT Classic Dec. 21.

“Charles is the kind of guy that doesn’t care about who he wrestles or the name on the singlet,” Roswell coach Evan Goff said. “This is a trait that is hard to come by these days. He is confident in himself and turns into a warrior when the lights come on. He is the type of wrestler that can wrestle the best kid on another team and still get a pin for you — shifting all the momentum our way, while sucking the life out of the opposing team.”
