Arlington Christian senior Darius McNear has been a problem in the paint for opponents this season.

The 6-foot-6 center is averaging double figures in points and rebounds for the surging Eagles.

“He has developed and continues to develop,” Arlington coach Greg Cannon said.

Even though his dominance was limited due to good sportsmanship in last Friday’s 76-10 win over Harvester Christian, McNear was still effective, scoring eight points and grabbing five rebounds.

“It was obvious that we were much more athletic than they were,” Cannon said.

McNear, who has been playing basketball at Arlington since the seventh grade, is also appreciative for all the sport provides.

“Basketball has always been there for me,” McNear said. “When I was little it helped me out with certain situations. I love that I can interact with people in different ways.

“Be a leader not only in the classroom but also on the court,” he said. “Show my character as a Christian young man on the court.”

Columbus State and Stetson, along with others, have reached out to McNear about continuing his playing career at their respective programs.

McNear has a 3.8 grade-point average and an interest in civil engineering and sociology.
