A preview of the future came against Mt. Zion on Jan. 12 when Mack scored a team-high 19 points, including three 3-pointers, in a 44-39 win without Daniel Peace (back) and Cameron Sutton (Auburn official visit).
“With Cam and Daniel not being there most guys would assume they got to take the load upon themselves and force shots,” Maehlman said. “But with Pat [Petty] being the type of player who understands D-Mack can score and can shoot. He was fine with getting him the basketball in certain situations. A lot of senior kids wouldn’t do that.”
“The plan was just come in and play my role as a shooter and play defense,” Mack said. “I ended up getting hot. The game plan was just to let the game come to me.”
Mack also had 10 points in the Cardinals’ 54-48 win at Riverdale last Friday.
The sharpshooter, who also plays for Douglas Brothers Elite, has a 3.2 GPA and runs cross country.
