Against Cedar Grove earlier this season, safety Dominick Sanders brought some more attention his way when he rushed for two touchdowns and returned two punts for scores in a Tucker 51-12 win.

On Nov. 8, he had an equal impact but on the other side of the ball, attaching his name to three interceptions in a Tigers’ 16-11 victory over Mays.

“Coach always tells me once the ball gets into the air, I turn into a receiver so that is what I did,” Sanders said.

The unique thing about the turnovers forced by the senior Sanders is that his final two picks occurred in the closing minutes of the game.

“Two interceptions with two minutes left in the fourth quarter is big time to me,” Sanders said.

With the win, the Tigers captured the Region 6-AAAAA title and also notched their seventh perfect regular season since 2001.

“We still got a lot to do and are focused on getting to the state championship,” Sanders said.

On the radar of many Division-I schools, Sanders said he plans to decide where he will play college football next year before Christmas. Georgia Tech, Ohio State and Vanderbilt are his top three choices.

Last Friday, Sanders had two interceptions (he returned one for a 65-yard touchdown) and a rushing score as Tucker advanced to the second round of the playoffs with a 35-14 win over Heritage-Conyers.
