ELCA senior Isaiah McLaughlin can definitely put the ball in the basket but he helped make that task a little easier for a pair of teammates against Strong Rock Christian.

McLaughlin made the right play here and there to assist Joshua Abrahams in scoring 21 points and Matt Tankersley adding 10 in a 56-37 win last Saturday.

“Isaiah and Joshua are really good players for us,” ELCA coach Jay Covington said. “Both of them stepped up. They’ve been playing well together all season long.”

“It’s a great position to play,” McLaughlin said. “My role is just to distribute the ball and be a leader. Joshua is still in the process of learning but for the most part he has done a very good job.”

McLaughlin finished with 10 points, six assists and four steals.

“He’s a very gifted athlete,” Covington said. “His passing has improved from game to game. From the beginning of the season until now, he has just really improved a lot.”

At press time, the Chargers were 10-7 overall and with another stretch of success; McLaughlin will accomplish one of his goals.

“I just want to have a winning record,” McLaughlin said. “Last year, we had a good team and could’ve been one but our record didn’t show it.”

McLaughlin wants to play for the Air Force Academy while majoring in computer science.
