In the Wildcats’ last three meets, Anyanwu has finished first in all three competitions.
“When I go to throw the discus, I just try to get all of it every single time,” Anyanwu said. “I don’t use any practice throws. I make sure I use all three of my throws to get the best distance that I can and try to set a personal record every time.”
“To be a good discus thrower you really have to have a good core,” Lovejoy track and field coach Dwight Callaway said. “He has a pretty good range of motion. His wingspan is pretty wide and the torque when he throws is pretty strong so I think that attributes a lot to his success.”
Anyanwu’s best throw of the season was 144 feet at the Early Bird Classic back in February.
“The discus is probably the hardest thing to do on the track,” Anyanwu said. “It’s a combination of what you are born with — length and power. It requires strength from your whole body and technique.”
Anyanwu has a 3.0 GPA and is also a member of the football team.
