In a news release Saturday, the Fulton County Board of Education announced District 3 board member Gail Dean will host a special meeting today at 7 p.m. to solicit input about the construction of a replacement Heards Ferry Elementary School in Sandy Springs.

The meeting will be held at Riverwood International Charter School, 5900 Raider Drive in Sandy Springs.

A Facebook page titled “Heards Ferry Elementary School Rebuild” has been set up to provide information on the issue: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Heards-Ferry-Elementary-Rebuild/148178745350579.

In a comment posted on the page Monday by District 6 Sandy Springs City Councilwoman Karen Meinzen McEnerny, who represents the area where Heards Ferry is located, she wrote, “I have heard from many of you regarding your serious questions and concerns about the redevelopment or relocation of Heards Ferry Elementary School south of I-285. Word is swirling about options, which most probably cannot be discussed by board member Dean due to confidentiality of executive session related to purchase of real estate. I have heard, however, from directly affected people (which at this point is not official) that a minimum of two new sites are under consideration: 1) a 12-acre site contiguous to the east of the ING building on Powers Ferry and 2) portions of the west side of Riverside Drive, south of I-285. There also remains the option 3) to rebuild on the existing site by “going up” to achieve the needed expansions to Riverwood and Heards Ferry.”

Check back with the Neighbor tonight for an article on the meeting.
