Having won all six of its tournaments, it has been a perfect summer so far for the NYO Bulls 9U All Stars.

The Bulls look to end their dream season on a perfect note in the Dizzy Dean World Series in Southaven, Miss., which began Saturday and ends Thursday.

“I think it’s a very exciting experience for the kids,” said Bulls coach Elliott Friedman, who is in his first year at NYO after coaching youth baseball for 15 years in Sandy Springs. “I know they’re pumped up to be going out of state to play in a tournament for the first time. It should be a lot of fun for them.”

The Bulls are among the 20 teams – all from the Southeast – in the 9U tournament field.

They qualified by winning the Dizzy Dean State Tournament in Rome June 28 through 30.

“That’s a big deal for the boys, because that group has never won the state tournament before,” Friedman said. “So, they were very excited about that.”

It is the second trip in a row to the Dizzy Dean World Series for Friedman, who coached the Sandy Springs Storm to a runner-up finish in the 12U division last year

The Dizzy Dean World Series is the culmination of a memorable summer for the Bulls, which entered the competition with a 28-3 record in addition to their six tournament titles.

The Bulls started the summer by winning the Lake City Classic in Acworth May 22 through 26.

They proceeded to win the Southeastern All Star Championship in Douglasville May 29 through June 2, the All-Star Showdown VII in Woodstock June 5 through 9, the Dizzy Dean District 4 tournament June 14 through 18 and the Triple Crown Summer Shootout in Cumming June 21 through 23.

“I’ve been coaching for 15 years, though this is my first year at NYO, and I don’t remember having a team that has won all six tournaments that were played in over the course of the summer,” Friedman said. “The kids set a goal at the beginning of the summer to win every tournament we’ve played in and so far, they have achieved their goal.”

The Bulls feature four players hitting over .500 – Cason Henry, Griffin McDonald, Burke Cigelske and William Baker.

Gray Williams, Quinn Damm and Baker lead a deep pitching staff, with nine pitchers having taken the mound for the Bulls this summer.

Also making key contributions for the Bulls are Cayden Cameron, Zack Cigelske, Aaron Lopez, William Reed May, Ryan Thomas and Walker Wolf.
