Fulton County School system representatives will be at a community meeting March 3 to discuss special features of what will be Roswell’s newest elementary school.

Redistricting and attendance boundaries will not yet be a focus of discussion, according to the system’s communications division. But school architects as well as system staff members representing construction management and facilities planning will also be at the meeting for questions on design and construction.

The community meeting will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Roswell North Elementary, 10525 Woodstock Road.

The new school doesn’t have an official name yet and is being referred to as West Roswell Area Elementary.

It is being built at the intersection of Alpharetta Street and Thomas Drive. The shopping center and residences currently at the site will be demolished to make room.

“The school board recently awarded the construction contract to Parrish Construction Group, and they will schedule the demolition. It most likely will begin in May or June,” said school system spokesperson Susan Hale. “The construction  budget for the project is projected to be around $18 million.”

West Roswell Area Elementary will first open in August 2015 as the temporary home of Esther Jackson Elementary School, which is scheduled for replacement.

Once it is demolished and rebuilt on its site, the West Roswell School will permanently open to students in August 2016.

The schools are part of the system’s five-year eSPLOST capital program that is building new schools, funding renovations and additions and supporting new technology in classrooms.
