Clayton County Commission Sonna Singleton’s community meeting last Thursday regarding safety-related projects in the area drew more than 100 residents and went beyond the time allotted.
A large map of the Rex Road area was displayed throughout the meeting and drew much of the audience’s attention as county officials referred to it time and again in answering resident questions.
“We wanted the meeting to be as much a one-on-one information session between county transportation officials and residents as possible and we were pleased with the success of that format,” Singleton said.
“As always, what interests my constituents is of uppermost importance to me and I felt we needed Clayton County transportation officials there as well as myself,” she added.
Singleton commended the interaction the audience had with county representatives and believed most questions were answered as thoroughly as possible.
Questions were asked about sidewalk construction in the area as well as other projects which were part of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax referendum, which was passed by Clayton voters.
Singleton said the exchange of information and the proactive involvement of county officials were keys to the success of the meeting.
“Often times people hear about work scheduled but have no prior knowledge or information about it, which were of concern to residents,” she said.
“We wanted residents who attended this meeting to have the information readily available to them so they could ask questions and voice their opinions about possible projects in their area,” Singleton added.
