The Rockin’ Roswell CHAIRity Event is auctioning 77 unique, hand-painted Adirondack rocking chairs designed by talented local artists.
“They are very comfortable, they are very well made and they are perfectly weather resistant. They’re functional art,” said Sherry Broadway, chairman of the event.
There are 64 adult-sized rockers and 13 chairs sized for children. Each of the chairs has a theme or design that is one of a kind, courtesy of artists who have donated their time, materials and labor.
“We ended up having so many artists interested in participating we actually had to turn some away,” Broadway said.
Beginning Saturday, Roswell Woman’s Club will auction these at the on-line auction site, BiddingForGood.com/rwc.
These chairs are displayed at locations throughout Roswell and on line at www.roswellwomansclub.org.
On June 1, Nalley Toyota of Roswell will host a live auction event that will include some chairs that will be available for bid only at the event.
Talk of the Town Catering & Special Events and DJ Greg Talmadge will provide the food, atmosphere and entertainment.
The Woman’s Club is also raffling some David Yurman jewelry donated by Brown & Co. Sterling silver large citrine waverly cable bracelet with 18K yellow accents and sterling silver metro hoop earrings with 18k yellow gold accents have a total value of $3,175.
Raffle tickets are three for $10 and may be bought from any Roswell Woman’s Club member.
The CHAIRity event and the raffle are taking the place of the Showcase Home that the club has presented as its big annual fundraiser for the past 16 years.
“We did not have a home this year. It all has to be so perfectly timed, getting a builder and then getting the home done all within a specific time frame,” Broadway said. “We were close on a few, but nothing hit the mark.”
Money raised by the CHAIRity event will be distributed back into the community by the Woman’s Club in the form of scholarships and educational grants to students, teachers and administrators as well as local nonprofits.
