The West Atlanta / Douglas Choral Society announced The Spivey Hall Tour Choir will be one of the chorale’s featured guest artists for the 2013-14 concert season.

The Spivey Hall Tour Choir will perform at the choral society’s Family Christmas Concert Dec. 3 at 8 p.m. at the Douglas County High School Performing Arts Hall (Mashburn Theater).

“We are very excited to feature The Spivey Hall Tour Choir in our 27th concert season series,” said Artistic Director / Conductor Waverly Rainey on behalf of the board. “We were so impressed at one of their performances with their variety of programming, excellent choral aspects and sound such as blend, contrast of dynamics, pure vowel sounds and tone color, volume control, intonation, musicianship, interpretation and commitment to quality music.

“The audience was very moved by the choir and the organization has an impressive and extensive music history. They are a pleasure to work with and will enhance our upcoming concert season for everyone involved and our audience.”

Located on the campus of Clayton State University and dedicated to excellence, the Spivey Hall Children’s Choir Program offers professional-level instruction in vocal technique, music theory, sight singing, ear training, and presentation as well as exposure to a variety of choral styles.

Founded in the fall of 2002, the Spivey Hall Young Artists features students ages 10 through 13. Under the direction of Craig Hurley, the Young Artists serves as the preparatory choir equipping singers with the skills they need to participate in the children’s choir.

The children’s choir, 120 voices strong, was founded in the spring of 1994 and features singers ages 10 to 18. Martha Shaw, artistic director of the program, conducts this ensemble as well as its more advanced counterpart the Tour Choir.

Singing with unmistakable spirit, refinement, and remarkable beauty of tone and expression, the tour choir is the select group of the organization.

These outstanding young musicians proudly represent Spivey Hall’s dedication to music education and commitment to artistic excellence.

As cultural ambassadors of the state of Georgia, the tour choir has recorded four professional CDs and performed to acclaim throughout the U.S., as well as in Canada, Sweden, Norway, England, Austria, the Czech Republic, China and Scotland.

This past summer they traveled to Charleston, S.C., and performed as part of the Piccolo Spoleto Festival as well as performing several benefit concerts.

The choral society also is hosting its seasonal auditions through September 2013. The 2013-14 seasonal concerts celebrates the group’s third decade and 27th concert season. For more than a quarter-century the choral society has been providing successful programming and community service and is the longest and largest serving chorale in the area representing Douglas County and west Atlanta / Georgia.

For information or to schedule an audition time, contact Sue Nantz (secretary) at (404) 732-7301 or Rainey at (770) 920-1662 or visit the chorale’s website at www.wadcs.org.
