Youth Football and Cheer Clinics in Roswell

Former Atlanta Falcons linebacker Buddy Curry, in conjunction with Kids & Pros, Inc., Roswell Recreation and Parks Department, Roswell Youth Football and Cheer Association and the Atlanta Falcons, will host special Youth Football and Cheer Clinics and a parent information session at Roswell Area Park March 30 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The clinics and parent information session are open to all north Fulton area youth recreation and school coaches as well as parents interested in learning about the following – the impact of a coach as a role model, character building through football and cheerleading, equipment fitting, concussion avoidance and Heads Up Football (the steps of proper football tackling technique and other skills to avoid injuries).

Atlanta Falcons players and cheerleaders will be on hand to help lead the clinics.

Roswell Recreation League baseball tourney

The Roswell Youth Baseball Association, in conjunction with the Roswell Recreation, Parks, Historic & Cultural Affairs Department, hosts its Mid-Season Recreational Baseball Tournament March 28 through 30 at Hembree Park on 850 Hembree Road in Roswell. The tournament includes all Roswell Recreation & Parks’ 23 baseball teams, with players ranging from nine to 14 years old.

Roswell Youth Lacrosse Invitational coming up

The Roswell Youth Lacrosse Invitational, one of the premiere youth lacrosse tournaments in the southeast, returns for its 11th year to Roswell Area Park May 9 through 11.

The RYLI brings more than 7,000 attendees to the Roswell area and hosts 2,200 kids, plus families and friends, over Mother’s Day weekend. In addition to the lacrosse competition, the tournament includes a Lax Village with exhibits, interactive games, contests, food, music, equipment vendors and lacrosse instruction.

Registration for the 2014 Patriot Community Sports football and cheer teams will begin March 1.

Golf tournament set for Johns Creek

The Standard Club in Johns Creek will host the inauguaral Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk golf tournament Monday.

The tournament is a fundraiser for the upcoming Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk in Newtown Park. The tournament offers competition with prizes for putting, longest drive, shoot-outs, closest-to-the pin shots and holes-in-ones on select holes. Prizes include luxury cars, Hawaiian vacations, rounds of golf at premier area golf courses and gift cards from businesses such as gun ranges, restaurants, car washes and a sky diving outfit. Pros Brad Smith from the Golf Doctor and Derek Oakley of Private Professional Golf (PPG) will show participants how to fine-tune their swing before they hit the links.

Smith and Oakley have competed on major tours, including the PGA Tour, European Tour and PGA Tour Canada.

Dr. Chad Harris, a certified golf fitness instructor from the Titleist Performance Institute, and long-drive specialist Rocky “Rockstar” Shipes will be on hand to help maximize participants’ strengths.

Players can sign up individually and teams play in foursomes.

The tournament will use a shamble format in which all players can tee off and the best drive is chosen as the starting point for the entire team.

The team score is the best ball of the team. Mulligan tickets are available.

All proceeds benefit the Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk, a meditative and interactive tribute to area veterans, their families and supporters, The walk is expected to be completed in Johns Creek’s Newtown Park by Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

Cost: $700 per team or $175 per player, which includes golf fees, a box lunch on carts, two drink tickets per player, dinner and a Standard Club shirt.

JCYFA Football and Cheer registration

The Johns Creek Youth Football Association (JCYFA) is now registering elementary age children for their 2014 fall season.

JCYFA offers tackle football for rising third, fourth and fifth graders, flag football for kindergarten through fourth graders and cheerleading for grades kindergarden through five.

Collegiates & Legends golf tourney in Roswell

Thirty of the leading LPGA Legends Tour golf professionals will tee it up with 60 of the top collegiate female golfers at the Judson Collegiate & Legends Pro-Am Challenge at Country Club of Roswell June 27 through 30.

Cost: $10 for general admission, children under 17 and military personnel with ID get in free, discounts for groups of 10 or more. For the workshop, $55 for general admission, students get in free.
