From prep teams to seniors’ athletics, competitive sports fare abounds.
Here is sampling of what’s going on:
Isaiah Dennis in dunk-off
Eagle’s Landing basketball standout Isaiah Dennis, a Georgia State recruit, has yet another opportunity to leave a lasting impression before taking his talents to the next level.
The high-flying senior guard, fresh off helping the Golden Eagles win their first state title, is competing at the 2013 American Family Insurance High School Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships.
The third annual event, which will showcase the dunking and shooting talents of 16 of the nation’s top high school seniors, will air at 2 p.m. Saturday on CBS. The program is being taped at Long Forum on the campus of Greater Atlanta Christian School.
The program will have numerous encore presentations on CBS Sports Network. Check local listings for dates and times.
On the high school level, no less than seven sports are in play: soccer, baseball, tennis, golf, lacrosse, track and field, and gymnastics.
Residents and non-residents can support Henry County high school athletic departments — via purchasing game tickets — in exchange for a boat-load of entertainment provided by the likes of the Locust Grove soccer Lady Wildcats.
Registration for the 24th annual DeKalb County Senior Olympic Games, to be held May 6-17, will continue through April 19.
The DeKalb County Senior Olympic Games is open to the public. DeKalb residents and residents from surrounding counties — including Henry — are encouraged To participate. Applications are available online and at all DeKalb County recreation centers, libraries and senior centers.
The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs will host the Olympic-style sports festival, featuring adults ages 50 and older, at venues across DeKalb.
Participants will compete in a variety of sports, including: women’s basketball clinic, free-throw basketball, bowling, golf, horseshoes, track and field, billiards, swimming, table tennis and water volleyball. Other activities include a line dancing competition, talent show, Wii bowling and health expo. Participants are encouraged to compete as a team or enter individual events for friendly competition.
Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each event.
