Each school nominates a candidate and voting by the county’s head coaches continues until a majority is decided. The winners chosen by the coaches for their respective sports are as follows:
Baseball – Jeremy Howell of East Paulding. Boys Golf – Buster Bruton of East Paulding. Girls Golf – Brittany Hadden of Paulding County. Boys Soccer – Zach Phelps of Paulding County. Girls Soccer – Melissa Rogers of East Paulding. Boys Track – Josh Whitener of North Paulding. Girls Track – Carissa Tipler of South Paulding. Boys Tennis – Dillon Humphries of South Paulding. Girls Tennis – Monica Behrle of East Paulding.
Howell, a recent graduate, made it to the playoffs twice with the Raiders and helped lead the team to a region championship as a senior. Howell will play baseball at Kennesaw State University.
Bruton, also a recent graduate, helped lead the Raiders’ golf team to a region championship this year and won low medalist at the region meet. Bruton signed a scholarship and will continue his golf career at Kennesaw State University.
Hadden, a rising senior, averaged 48 for nine holes this season and had the lowest scoring average for girls in the school district for the second year in a row.
Phelps, a 2013 graduate, made the second all-region team as a senior. While playing for Paulding County he set school records for saves in a season (215), saves in a game (29) and career saves (608).
Rogers, a rising senior, scored 23 goals this season and hopes to obtain a scholarship next year.
Whitener, a recent graduate, earned the title of 2013 5A Shot Put State Champion along with the Paulding County, Region 5-AAAAA and 5A Sectional champion. Whitener will continue on at Harvard University where he signed to compete.
Tipler, a recent graduate, won the triple jump Region 5-AAAAA Championship as a senior and finished third at state. She also signed a track scholarship to Georgia Institute of Technology.
Humphries, a recent graduate and first singles player, helped the Spartans make the playoffs as a senior. He finished the season 7-4 and signed to play at Shorter University.
Behrle, a rising senior, won this award last year as well. Behrle helped lead the team to the playoffs this season. Behrle is undefeated in the county and has a 40-6 career record while playing for the Raiders.
