The Tucker Farmers Market is well underway, and will continue through December with new activities and entertainment.

Coordinator Nancy Qarmont said the market is in its second year and already the weekly event brings enough guests to demand live music, food trucks and children’s activities.

Thursday, the market will welcome Mike Snowden, a musician who plays on a guitar made from a guitar box. He sells his unique instrument, too. Snowden has a Southern rock feel, Qarmont said.

The market will have a community booth promoting upcoming health screenings and educating attendees about nutrition and healthy lifestyles, she said. There will also be someone sharing information about an upcoming 5K at Tucker High School.

The market includes 35 vendors from metro Atlanta selling products such as honey, organic dog treats, granola, picked vegetables, beef, eggs, mushrooms, bread or other locally grown or made products. Non-edible plants and flowers will be available, too.

This year’s farmers market adds crafters throughout each month. Crafts range from jewelry, body vendors with soaps, lotions and candles to King of Pops popsicles, Qarmont said. Qarmont also brought in cooking classes for some of the markets.

“For this just being the second season, it’s a great success,” she said. “The community loves it and it’s part of a mission to bring people to Main Street and show what Tucker has to offer.”

She began that mission as a local business owner in downtown Tucker, and as a frequent farmers market attendee. Qarmont saw the impact of farmers markets in other cities and even based her store, Festival, around farmers markets. The downtown Tucker store is a collection of street market items, she said.

“I know what it can do to boost the community,” she said. “For many years I’ve wanted one here.”

The market will be every Thursday through December from 4 to 8 p.m. in downtown Tucker at 2333 Main St.
