County commissioners for Districts 2 and 4 will host public meetings this week that each commissioner said will be used to gauge their constituents’ views on a variety of local and state issues.

District 2 Commissioner Kelly Robinson has scheduled a legislative session town hall meeting for 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, in Citizen’s Hall of the Douglas County Courthouse, and is inviting the public to get firsthand information on issues facing the Douglas County legislative delegation to the Georgia General Assembly.

Robinson has invited District 35 State Sen. Donzella James, D-College Park, and District 61 State Rep. Roger Bruce, D-Atlanta, to address the public on what they see are the hot topics in this year’s legislative session that began earlier this week. Included in the discussion will be local transportation issues, health care, fire arms, judicial and public safety issues, economic development, and government budgets.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions during the meeting. The meeting is open to the public with free admission.

District 4 Commissioner Ann Jones Guider has scheduled her annual town hall meeting for Saturday, at 10 a.m. at Ephesus Baptist Church at 8445 Ephesus Church Road.

Guider holds her annual town hall meeting near the first of the calendar year, which is also the beginning of the county’s fiscal year, so that she can report to her constituents actions of the past year and plans for the new year.

“I hope that many people will turn out. I will be addressing the economic situation of the county, taxes, new tag laws, road projects in progress and answering questions from the audience,” Guider said in a prepared release.

Ephesus Baptist was chosen as the site of this year’s meeting since it is centrally located within District 4, which stretches from Paulding to Carroll counties from north to south, and is generally considered the “western side” of the county. District 4 is the largest county district in terms of size, and residents of all four districts are welcome to attend.

Guider was elected District 4 Commissioner in 2010. She serves a four-year term. She previously served as the Douglas County tax commissioner for 28 years, retiring in 2008.

Light refreshments, including coffee and juice, will be served. The town hall meeting is open to the public.
