U.S. Senate candidates to speak to Paulding groups tonight, July 20

Paulding County Republicans this week and next week will hear from two announced candidates for the U.S. Senate seat Saxby Chambliss is vacating in 2014.

Former Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel and current U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey, R-Marietta, are set to make appearances before two GOP groups.

Handel is scheduled to speak today at 7 p.m. to the monthly meeting of the Paulding County Republican Women’s Club at Amberley Senior Community at 890 Macland Road in Dallas.

Gingrey will speak to the monthly meeting of the Paulding County Republican Party July 20 at 9 a.m. at Chicken World restaurant at 4109 Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway in Hiram. The breakfast meeting will feature chicken biscuits and other breakfast food and drinks.

In addition, the Republican Women's Club club is organizing a forum on the Common Core state standards to promote awareness of this new initiative and its effect on what the children of Paulding County and all of Georgia are expected to learn. Members are seeking Paulding school PTA members to enlist their involvement in the forum. The Common Core state standards meeting is set for Aug. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Paulding County Chamber of Commerce building on U.S. Hwy. 278 in Dallas.
