The Sandy Springs Library, a branch of the Atlanta-Fulton County Public Library System, has reopened after temporarily closing because of a water main problem.
In a phone interview Thursday morning, Kelly Robinson, a spokeswoman for the library system, said the library was to reopen Thursday at noon. It had been closed since Monday.
A reporter called the Sandy Springs Library Wednesday, and in its outgoing voicemail message Wednesday, an unidentified woman said, “The Sandy Springs Branch is currently closed due to a facility maintenance issue that is being addressed. Check back and we will update you as soon as the branch reopens. In the interim, you can return checked-out books to our two closest locations, our Roswell and Northside branches. Visit www.afplweb.com for a full list of locations, addresses and hours. We apologize for this inconvenience.”
In a phone interview Wednesday, Robinson added, “I understand it’s a water main problem underneath the building.”
The Sandy Springs branch is located at 395 Mount Vernon Hwy. Robinson said library workers “noticed the leak on Sunday [while it was open] but the library did not close until Monday.”
“The spot of the leak is actually in the [library’s] garden area,” she said Wednesday. “Fulton County has addressed the original leak [today] and then they noticed another leak. They will be back on site [Thursday] to make repairs. We have been told the library could open as early as tomorrow.”
Robinson added the inside of the building, the parking lot, sidewalk and road next to the library were not damaged by the leak.
The Roswell branch is located at 115 Norcross St., and the Northside branch’s address is 3295 Northside Pkwy., Atlanta.
