In a news release Monday, the Georgia Lottery Corp. announced a ticket worth $400,000 was sold in Buckhead.

Pharr Food & Gas, located at 345 Pharr Road, sold a $400,000 top prize from the instant game 20X The Money. The winner, Janice Harris, of Atlanta, claimed her prize recently at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta. When asked in an email by the Neighbor what part of Atlanta Harris lived in, Kimberly Starks, a spokeswoman for the Georgia Lottery said it could not divulge that information due to its privacy policy.

Harris, 68, celebrated her birthday earlier this month and is retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

“I’ll pay off some bills,” she said in a statement. “More than likely I’ll work with a charity that helps children.”

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery has returned more than $13.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship program and Georgia’s pre-K program.

More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
