“He’s a great kid, great player and has great academics,” said Northview head coach Chad Davenport of Upshaw a day before National Signing Day.
Upshaw chose ASU over scholarship opportunities from Furman, Navy, South Alabama and Samford — where he was committed to in the days leading up to National Signing Day.
Appalachian State is a Football Championship Subdivision school that competes in the Southern Conference. The Mountaineers recruited Upshaw to play running back.
It was in the backfield that Upshaw, who also saw time on defense and special teams, made his biggest impact for the Titans in 2012 — running for 1,267 yards and 26 touchdowns on the ground.
“Terrence set our single-season rushing record, career rushing records, record for touchdowns in a season and touchdowns in a career,” said Davenport of his star back that scored 29 total touchdowns as a senior. “He is just a dynamic kid, a great leader and someone that will be difficult for us to replace.”
