Vacation Bible school, in its traditional sense, is often a time for children to learn Bible-based lessons in a church environment during the summer.
The structure of a vacation Bible school program may range from completing assignments in workbooks to hands-on activities and field trips.
Oakland Baptist Church, 1005 Highway 81 West in McDonough, one of the churches hosting a vacation Bible school, will put its own spin on the annual program.
With a program called Colossal Coaster World, Pastor Mike Smith said the fun is intended for all ages, from children through adults.
“The theme is an amusement park theme that deals with overcoming fears and placing our trust in God,” he said.
The program started on Monday and will conclude on Friday evening with Jim Chester, “an evangelillusionist, who uses magic tricks and illusion to tell the Gospel,” Smith said.
Each session of vacation Bible school will run from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church.
In Henry County, other churches have vacation Bible school programs upcoming, all with different themes and age groups welcome.
