The Georgia Department of Transportation is warning motorists of extreme backups with the I-285 top end resurfacing project this weekend.

Numerous ramps in both directions will be closed at various times throughout the weekend, weather permitting. Construction and maintenance work will also be underway on several state routes around metro Atlanta throughout the weekend.

All weekend, crews will close and reopen ramps in the I-75/I-285 interchange in Cobb County, in the GA 400/I-285 Interchange north and southbound — Glenridge ramps — and at several other ramps along the top end, GDOT announced. Also, one right lane will be closed for construction on GA 400 northbound at Abernathy Road from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. daily.

“Motorists should be alert and proceed with caution through the work zone and be aware that when theses ramps are closed, signed detours will be in place,” said GDOT District Construction Engineer Lee Upkins. “I still think it would be wise to seek alternate routes if you don't have to be in the area. If you do, give yourself extra time to navigate the work zones.”

Other projects affecting traffic this weekend include bridge work on GA 400 northbound, from I-85 to Sidney Marcus Boulevard and around I-85/Peachtree Road; GA 400 southbound, from Lenox Road to Sidney Marcus Boulevard and around I-85/Peachtree Road, and work around the Sidney Marcus Boulevard/State Route 13 intersection.
