The show will run from 12:30 to 4 p.m. with the awarding of cash prizes at 3 p.m. Artists, families and the general public are invited to this free exhibition. The fresco art galerie & café is located at 11164 State Bridge Road, next to Regions bank. Phone is (770) 777-4773.
THE BLOCK PARTY is a public art project and traveling exhibit. It is a collective journey of exploration in which participants will use a block of wood to express their unique vision of a particular concept. AOTC selected “community” as the theme.
The Home Depot is the main sponsor of the project and donated the blocks.
Cash prizes will be given for first place winners in each age bracket: $50 for students and mixed-aged groups, $75 for adults and $125 for professionals.
The block is a 6” long piece of standard 2”x2” pine lumber, a small and humble piece of wood with which artists have to create something of meaning and value. It may be beautiful, surprising, humorous, satirical, ironic ... but above all, original. Submissions have varied from cutting the block into piece and attaching them to a multi-media painting to being used as connectors in a coffee table. Children’s submissions include a group project by Girl Scouts from Troop 3008, of Johns Creek.
AOTC is planning on showing the exhibition at numerous locations in metro Atlanta.
AOTC President Ron Cioffi said, “We are very honored to have our first THE BLOCK PARTY exhibition and opening reception at fresco art galerie & café. Robert Azar, the gallery and café owner, has been a strong supporter of the visual arts in Johns Creek and we are indebted to him to open his space for our numerous artists, families and art lovers.”
