Atlanta Alumnae Panhellenic Association awards scholarships of $1,000 each to six alumnae, collegians, and high school senior women
The Atlanta Alumnae Panhellenic Association’s (AAPA) Annual Scholarship Luncheon and Silent Auction was held at the Dunwoody Country Club on Saturday, April 30, 2011 and began with a Past Presidents’ Processional to honor and recognize past AAPA presidents. As part of its goals of supporting academic achievement among women, AAPA has provided scholarships to women from the Atlanta area since 1932. These scholarships were awarded to two sorority alumnae pursuing graduate studies, two junior or senior sorority collegiate members currently in college, and two high school seniors who will be attending a college or university that has NPC sorority chapters on campus. Our alumnae scholarship recipients were Nicole Martin, Kappa Kappa Gamma, attending Valdosta State and Brittany Paschal, Chi Omega, attending University of Georgia Vet School. Two collegiate scholarships were awarded to Sarah Daniels, Sigma Sigma Sigma, attending Oglethorpe University and Armina Khwaja, Alpha Chi Omega, attending Georgia Tech. Two high school scholarships were awarded to Neda Norouzi from South Cobb HS who will attend Georgia Tech and Shannon Dopson from Lassiter HS who will attend UGA in the fall.
In addition to recognizing these scholarship recipients, AAPA also announced their Panhellenic Women of the Year, an honor presented to outstanding sorority women who have contributed ten or more years of public service experience (above and beyond any professional career) in civic affairs, education, the arts, and their fraternity. This year’s recipients of the Panhellenic Woman of the Year were Mary Rekhart Ulich of Alpha Phi and Sara Rosier Bush of Delta Zeta.
The Sigma Kappa Atlanta Alumnae Chapter was recognized as the 2011 Outstanding Alumnae Chapter and Sarah Davis-Candeto was selected as the first annual recipient of the Zeta Tau Alpha Carolyn Hendricks Hester Outstanding Advisor Award. The keynote speaker was Mary Jane Parker Beach, Assistant VP for Finance and Operations at the University of Iowa and currently serving as the NPC Delegate for Kappa Alpha Theta.
