JOHNS CREEK – Blessed Trinity’s Chris Dore led the way with 76 yards receiving and two touchdowns, and the South All-Stars jumped on top early and never looked back in a 49-0 thrashing of the North All-Stars in the 2011 Chamber Bowl on Saturday afternoon at Johns Creek High School’s Colosseum.

Dore, a second-team All-Neighbor all-purpose selection who caught six passes on the day, hauled in touchdown passes of 29 and 14 yards from Centennial’s Jimmy Meyer and Riverwood’s Robert Beckley, respectively. He leaked behind the secondary to open the scoring just 67 seconds into the game, and his 14-yard score on a fade from Beckley gave the South a 35-0 lead late in the third quarter.

Dore and his South teammates – 34 of which attend north Fulton schools – enjoyed ending their high school careers on a victorious note.

“It felt really good, it meant a lot to me,” said Dore, who helped BT to the second round of the Class-AA playoffs in 2011 after catching 30 passes for 499 yards and five touchdowns to go along with four interceptions on defense.

Awaiting a scholarship offer, Dore also said the week of practice provided an opportunity for college coaches to scout him and other talented players from north Fulton and Forsyth.

“I would definitely love to play in college. I talked to a couple coaches. They came over [to the school] and pulled me out of class. But I don’t know yet,” he said.

Meyer started the game under center for the South and completed 6 of 9 passes for 140 yards and the scoring strike to Dore. The Harvard-bound signal-caller added a 2-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter to make the score 21-0 after Roswell’s Joe Bartlett scored earlier from the 5 to put the South up 14-0.

One quarter later, Meyer’s Centennial teammate, Zietrick Smith, plunged in from the 1 to put the South up 28-0 at the half.

The South would tack on three more scores in the second half thanks to Dore, a 35-yard interception return from Holy Innocents’ Andy Nichols and a 36-yard Craig McIntosh (North Atlanta) to Shawn Derck (Chattahoochee) touchdown pass with 1:56 remaining in the game.

The South defense provided plenty of highlights as well.

Luke Wagner (Chattahoochee), Grant Brown (Johns Creek), Travis Marsh (Chattahoochee) and Bartlett had their names called all day for big hits in the backfield. Garrett Harris (Riverwood) and Connor Winn (Chattahoochee) also produced interceptions along with Nichols, who was named the game’s defensive MVP.

“It was great. It was a great pleasure to play with all these guys and I really just wanted to go all out since this was my last high school game,” said Wagner. “There’s just so much talent on the field. It was really fun and I’m glad the fans got into it as well.”

The North squad was composed primarily of Forsyth County players, in addition to Mt. Pisgah’s Alex Dixon and King’s Ridge’s Devon Schmitt.

Schmitt, a first-team All-Neighbor selection who caught two passes for 43 yards on Saturday, provided one of the day’s top highlights when he made an impressive over-the-shoulder grab in tight coverage for 32 yards near the left sideline in the fourth quarter.

The North All-Stars were led by Lambert quarterback David Broadus, who completed 9 of 22 passes for 118 yards. Pinecrest Academy’s Brad Nassaur caught four passes for 53 yards.

Johns Creek’s Kirby Southard accepted the offensive MVP award and was recognized along with the entire South offensive line.
