The Dunwoody and Sandy Springs/Perimeter chambers of commerce are working in tandem this time around to gauge and harness commercial interests.

Their joint venture, the 2012 Greater Perimeter Business Expo, will be held at the Westin Atlanta Perimeter North June 1.

Each chamber held a similar business-to-business and consumer event two weeks apart last year. The resulting strain on members and sponsors alike convinced officials to join forces this go-round.

“We decided that we could have a larger and more beneficial event for all of our members and participants,” said Debbie Fuse, executive director of the Dunwoody Chamber. “By combining the two events, we also felt that the attendees could have a broader spectrum of businesses.”

The expo, presented in tradeshow-like fashion, will feature more than 100 exhibitors from around the greater Perimeter area. Participants range from banks and hospitals to construction firms and nonprofit groups.

“The Dunwoody/Sandy Springs/Perimeter area is the metro [Atlanta] area’s premier business district with more office space than downtown, giving businesses an outstanding opportunity to get exposure and enabling attendees to see a quality mix of businesses,” said expo Chair Cory Jackson.

This year’s day-long event is expected to draw between 750 and 1,000 people. For its part, the Dunwoody expo crowd in 2011 was comprised of 65 percent business people, with consumers making up the balance.

Officials are touting the day as a resource for merchants and firms wanting to learn how to better navigate the current economic landscape.

“Many of the indicators show that we are in the very early stages of economic recovery,” Fuse said. “For metro Atlanta businesses, the expo will expand your market area … and provide you with some great seminars to better prepare you as the market recovers.”
