The 46th Dogwood Invitational kicked off Monday at the Druid Hills Golf Club with a qualifying round, but the main event opened Wednesday morning with the first round. By the time the final score card had been counted, qualifier MJ Maguire led the pack with a round of 66.

On a beautiful sunny day, the 87 contestants took the links in an attempt to jump out to a early lead. Fourteen players shot a round under par. Another 21 were at least within one stroke of par, including Druid Hills Golf Club members Edward Kropp, Sean Murphy and Michael Morrison.

Kropp shot a 71 in the first round, good for a tie for 11th and five strokes off the lead. Murphy and Morrison each shot a 73, which is one over par and eight strokes off the lead.

Other club members playing this week include John Davis, who shot a three-over par 75 and Philip Verlander, who shot a five-over par 77.
