The Fairburn resident and owner of Southern Cosmopolitan Baking Company was jolted to reality when she received a call requesting for her to appear on the show.
“[My baking partner and I] made a YouTube video and then they called me,” she said.
Jacobs-Daniel’s episode aired on June 17 on the network, following two days of taping in Manhattan Beach, Calif.
When Jacobs-Daniel learned she had won the competition, she admits it was an overwhelming moment.
“I was ecstatic,” she said. “I cried. Nobody knew that I had done it because I couldn’t tell anyone. So the entire ordeal was emotional.”
The business owner credits the new addition of the citrus vanilla cupcake, with dabs of oranges and apricots as well as an orange cheesecake frosting, as a clincher to her win.
Her goal in coming up with it was to put a new spin on a classic — most of what she does with all her baked goods, hence the name of her company.
“I tried to take basic recipes that I already knew and coupled them with the ingredients on the table,” she said. “We tried to cram all the ingredients that we could and still make it awesome.”
This was a challenge, Jacobs-Daniel said, especially since some of the ingredients were not the run of the mill baker’s pick of the litter — including items such as spaghetti, peas and wheat bread.
Since her win, Jacobs-Daniel has been bombarded with orders and publicity, so much so that she is considering hiring an intern to delegate some of the work she usually keeps in-house with just herself and family.
“It’s been so crazy,” she said. “I have been all over the place. I am getting used to it.”
Her victory has also been a reminder of how far she has come, as she started baking when she was teenager and learned the tools of the trade from her grandmother.
To further her business, Jacobs-Daniel hopes to open a storefront of Southern Cosmopolitan in Fairburn later this year.
“Part of my whole business plan is that I really want to be in my community to do business,” she said.
