All ballots will include the special election with the Northwest Georgia Regional District T-SPLOST ballot question which states it “provides for local transportation projects to create jobs and reduce traffic congestion with citizen oversight.”
It will ask voters to choose “yes” or “no” to the question: “Shall Paulding County’s transportation system and the transportation network in this region and the state be improved by providing for a 1 percent special district transportation sales and use tax for the purpose of transportation projects and programs for a period of 10 years?”
Paulding projects on the regional list include widening of Macland Road, U.S. Hwy. 278 from Bill Carruth Parkway to the Cobb County line, and Ga. Hwy. 61 from Winndale Road to U.S. Hwy. 278; a new Paulding County Traffic Control Center; an advance management system for Ga. Hwy. 6; improvements to Ga. Hwy. 61 intersections with Hart Road, Mustang Drive, Old Villa Rica Road, Aiken Drive / Paulding County High School, and Vernoy Aiken Road; construction of the new West Dallas Bypass; and funding for the Xpress Regional Commuter Service.
Proponents have said the funding is needed to build the projects because dwindling federal and state transportation funding will make it increasingly harder to build the projects in the future.
Opponents, among other things, have said individual counties should impose their own SPLOSTs to provide more local control over road projects and funding.
