With their Banneker basketball days behind them, Raven Favors and Kenya Wright decided they still wanted to run the floor together so they confirmed their decision to attend Andrew College last Thursday.

“I wanted to go where I felt I can get playing time so Andrew is the perfect place,” said Favors, who plans to major in forensic science.

“The basketball team is rebuilding so I will have a better chance of helping build the team,” said Wright, who will major in nursing.

Last season, Favors averaged 14 points and six assists, and Wright averaged eight points and eight rebounds.

“Two girls from the same school is going to be a great asset to our team,” Andrew College coach Samantha Paradise said.

“They’ve already played together and are used to each other.

“They will be more connected than the other girls starting out and already have that relationship,” she said.

“It’s good to come in partners sometimes.”

Banneker girls’ basketball coach Avery Swarn believes Favors will provide her new team with scoring from both guard spots, while Wright will be a successful rebounder and mid-range shooter.

“Overall, I think the girls are going to bring a hardworking attitude to the program,” Swarn said. “I look forward to seeing what they are going to do for Andrew College.”

Swarn was also proud of the overall significance of this signing.

“The fact that both of them are going to Andrew College and signed letters of intent is going to help our program when people see that at Banneker,” he said. “I’m just happy to say that all five of our seniors are going to college.”

To prepare for her transition to the next level, Favors has been following a four-week workout plan which Paradise gave to her.

Favors is expected to run a mile, shoot 50 free throws and complete full-court dribbling and shooting drills.

Meanwhile, Wright has been working out with former teammates, running to build stamina, jumping rope and lifting weights.

“Conditioning is going to be key,” Paradise said. “They are going to hit conditioning that they’ve never seen before.”

In high school, you’re asked a lot but once you get to that next level you’re going to be asked to do a lot more.”

Paradise also believes both of these players will fit well into her system because of their tenacity and passion on the court.
