The memorial service from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Dignity Memorial Chapel will pay homage to past patients of Divine Hospice, whom the organization works in conjunction with.
“We set up a memorial service for [the families of] everyone we ever cared for for six months or more,” said Adeline Augustin, volunteer coordinator. “All of them can be in one room to hear speakers.”
Augustin said a grief counselor will also be on hand to extend counseling and comfort for those who may need it.
Although A Light of Hope works a great deal with Divine Hospice to care for those with terminal illnesses, the organization also coordinates other outreach programs.
One such program is a clothing drive. In April, employees placed flyers and donation boxes throughout the community in order to distribute clothing to residents.
“On July 6 we did a clothes giveaway,” Augustin said. “[All donated items] were washed and folded. We had a great turnout.”
The turnout was so large, according to Augustin, that they still have clothes on hand to distribute.
Another program that is in the works is a food drive.
Augustin said this is untrue based on what she sees as a demonstrated need.
“We help the sick, frail and those who are terminally ill,” said Augustin. “Based on the funding we receive, however, we try to reach out to others in the community. Our office is on Old National [Highway]. Sometimes we have people come into our office asking for food.”
Details for the food drive are still being solidified, but Augustin said it would most likely take place in the fall.
