The focus of the meeting will be the organization of the friends group, including what it means to be involved in a Friends of the Library group.
The organizers will consider its activities, how the group will represent the community to the library in sharing community needs and how it can help collect books, local memorabilia and historical items for display at the library.
The Douglas County Library is located at 6810 Selman Drive in Douglasville adjacent the Douglas County Health Department.
The public is invited to attend and encouraged to bring family and friends. The meeting will be hosted by the library staff and patrons who have shown an interest in helping organize the group.
The Dog River Library has an active Friends group that provides book collections, author reading events, and sponsored the vacation reading program for children.
Due to the geographic distance between the two libraries, a second friends group for the Douglas County Library is being created to hopefully provide fellowship and services of a similar nature.
The library staff anticipates that a third friends group may be initiated next year for the Lithia Springs Library.
