The Tucker Tigers are coming off another state title, while the Stephenson Jaguars are still searching for that first title.

Tucker won its second Class AAAA title in four years last season. Stephenson had another upsetting early exit from the postseason in the first round.

These two teams have produced several college athletes and many region titles through the years. Now the two join Dunwoody, Lakeside, M.L. King, Arabia Mountain, Clarkston, Mays, Miller Grove and Southwest DeKalb to form the super DeKalb region in AAAAA.

There is no shortage of quality in Region 6AAAAA. Seven of the 11 teams in the region had a winning season last year.

Projected Order of Finish:
1. Tucker
2. Stephenson
3. M.L. King
4. Southwest DeKalb
5. Dunwoody
6. Mays
7. Miller Grove
8. Lakeside
9. Clarkston
10. Arabia Mountain
11. North Atlanta

DUNWOODY WILDCATS
Coach: Jim Showfety (Georgia); 3rd season (12-8, 26-28 overall in five seasons)
2011 Record: 6-4
Starters Returning: 2 (offense), 2 (defense)
Top Returning Players: Sr. LB/RB/TE Charlie Beausoleil, 6-1/200; Jr. C/LB Jordan Haas, 5-9/185; Jr. FB/LB Robert Johnson, 5-9/180; Sr. QB/FS/P Ryan Gaines, 6-1/180

Season Outlook: Showfety has guided the Wildcats to two straight 6-4 seasons. Dunwoody has barely missed the postseason in both seasons. This may be the year the Wildcats crack into the playoffs, but this could be another 6-4 season.

Sept. 7: vs. Lakeside (North DeKalb)
Sept. 15: at Stephenson (Hallford)

LAKESIDE VIKINGS
Coach: Mike Rozier (West Alabama); 1st season (0-0, 51-67 overall in 11 seasons)
2011 Record: 0-10
Starters Returning: 3 (offense), 3 (defense)
Top Returning Players: Jr. SS Brad Earnest, 6-1/185; Jr. QB Nick Alexander, 5-11/170; Sr. Hback Kyle Smith, 6-1/180; Sr. WR Jack Thomas, 6-1/170; Jr. WR Addison Whooten, 6-1/175; Soph. OL Michael Horton, 6-3/290

Season Outlook: There was a time when Lakeside football was synonymous with championship caliber football. The Vikings have not experienced that feeling in the past 15 seasons.

After going through four coaches since 2006, the Vikings are hoping Rozier is here to stay. Rozier transformed the Henry County Warhawks from a losing team into a perennial playoff contender. Lakeside is hoping for some of that success.

This may not be the year Rozier turns the Vikings around, but there is no doubt he will lay the foundation for the team to build a contender on.

Schedule:
Aug. 24: vs. Holy Innocents’ (Adams)
Sept. 7: at Dunwoody (North DeKalb)
Sept. 14: at Southwest DeKalb (Panthersville)

Nov. 10: vs. Arabia Mountain (Adams)

STEPHENSON JAGUARS
Coach: Ron Gartrell (Carson-Newman); 17th season (135-50, 169-96 overall in 25 seasons)
2011 Record: 9-2
Starters Returning: 2 (offense), 2 (defense)
Top Returning Players: Sr. QB Justin Holman, 6-2/180; Sr. LB Rashad Payne, 6-0/200; Sr. RB Brandon Washington, 5-8/170; Sr. LB Kight Dallas, 6-2/220; Sr. C/DT Jordan Dunham, 6-1/308; Sr. CB Ali Groves, 5-10/172; Sr. DE/TE Jonathan Wynn, 6-4/220

Season Outlook: Region titles used to be second nature for the Jaguars, but then M.L. King decided to spoil the party two straight seasons. The Lions beat Stephenson in the final game of the regular season the past two seasons to claim the Region 2AAAAA title both years.

The Jaguars want to get the string of region championships started again, but to do that they will have to battle with a collection of former Class AAAA teams that fought for the playoffs last season.

Schedule:
Sept. 1: at Pensacola Pine Forest (North Gwinnett), 2 p.m.
Sept. 7: at Arabia Mountain (Hallford), 8 p.m.

Nov. 9: vs. North Atlanta (Hall-ford), 8 p.m.

TUCKER TIGERS
Coach: Bryan Lamar (Tennessee-Chattanooga); 1st season (0-0)
2011 Record: 15-0
Starters Returning: 5 (offense), 2 (defense)
Top Returning Players: Sr. QB Juwaan Williams, 6-1/180; Sr. OL/DL Alexander Hayes, 6-3/285; Sr. RB/DB Yusuf Minor, 5-9/165; Sr. WR/DB Austin Benton, 5-11/175; Jr. DB/WR/RB Dominic Sanders, 5-11/175; Jr. RB/LB Dallas Rivers, 6-1/195; Sr. OL/DL Solomon Jackson, 6-1/230; Sr. OL/DL Evan Clay, 6-6/320

Season Outlook: There may be a different coach, and many pieces of the state championship winning team may be gone, but Tucker should still be a dominant team this season.

The Tigers won the Class AAAA state championship last season with the school’s first ever 15-0 season. Tucker dominated Lovejoy in the final on offense and defense to capture its second title in four years.

That is all in the past now, as former head coach Franklin Stephens is gone and Lamar, the team’s former defensive coordinator is now the head man.

Tucker proved last season that it can put a winning team on the field no matter how many players it sends to the collegiate ranks the year before.

It will be interesting to see how Tucker fares against Stephenson and M.L. King. It technically may be a different region, but the Tigers should remain on top. Perfection may not be in the cards, but another region title should be.

Schedule:
Aug. 24: vs. Cedar Grove (Hallford)
Sept. 7: at North Atlanta (Grady), 8 p.m.
Sept. 14: vs. Arabia Mountain (Adams), 8 p.m.
Sept. 21: at Dunwoody (North DeKalb)
Sept. 28: vs. Lakeside (HC) (Adams)
Oct. 12: at Stephenson (Hallford)
Oct. 19: at Southwest DeKalb (Hallford)
Oct. 26: vs. Miller Grove (Adams), 8 p.m.
Nov. 2: at M.L. King (Hallford)
Nov. 9: vs. Mays (Adams)
