All four candidates share a common goal — to see the city of Brookhaven succeed. With varying experiences, the candidates all vow to make their business experiences, as well as their love for the new city a top priority in why they initially decided to run for mayor.
Danese, a 30-year DeKalb County resident is a retired engineer who operates two small businesses. Before retiring, he managed the implementation of upgrades to a nuclear power plant and projects related to the transport of hazardous materials for the nuclear industry and the federal government. Danese decided to run based on his qualifications, experience and background, which he feels are necessary for collaborative and effective city startup and operation.
With experience as an entrepreneur and small business owner, Murray a nine year resident of Brookhaven, is running for mayor based on her work following budgets, selling ideas to customers and managing employees and organizational growth at rapid rates. Murray has also worked with government agencies and said she has an understanding of how governments operate.
Davis, an attorney and 40-year resident of Brookhaven, is running for mayor because he feels Brookhaven residents deserve a city that is efficient, accountable, friendly and responsive. He added he has the skills necessary to serve as the city’s first mayor.
Not content with Brookhaven being just a little better than unincorporated DeKalb, Shepard would like for the new city to be exceptional.
Shepard said he wants Brookhaven to set the bar for all future cities, as well as set the standard with quality of service, frugality, efficiency, sensibility and innovation in public and private partnerships.
