One of the oldest and best-loved events of its kind in north Fulton, the Roswell Arts Festival soon will be closing in on a half century of success.

So now, in its 46th year, the organizing committee is freshening up the festival’s image with a new logo. It will appear in all promotional materials for the event, set for Sept. 15 and 16 at the Roswell town square.

“I hope the bright colors and very different design say hey, we are The Roswell Arts Festival and while we’ve been here 46 years, we are a ‘now’ happening,” said Sally White, who is the festival chairperson.

White said the festival committee has been thinking about a new logo for a couple of years “and it would have been good to introduce it on the 45th anniversary, but it was not ready, and we decided to introduce it whenever it was approved. We had input at the beginning from professionals and the only thing they all agreed on was that we definitely needed a new logo.”

The committee wanted the logo to “convey the vibrancy of the arts and capture the fun of the festival,” according to Dotty Etris of the Roswell Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The old logo “was a black and white image of the bandstand in town square. As the look of the square changed over the years, the logo did not,” Etris said.

Sporting a purple, orange and yellow square on a white background, with the words “Roswell” in purple lettering and “art festival” in black, the new logo has a clean, cheerful and modern look.

Kris Flood of Beeline Graphics volunteered her time and expertise to make the new logo a reality.

Artists and artisans from throughout the Southeast bring a variety of fine arts and original crafts to the event, which also offers festive foods.

Sponsored by the Roswell Recreation Commission, past Roswell Arts Festivals have raised money for a variety of projects, including the spray grounds, the Roswell Visual Arts Center, the Roswell Adult Recreation Center and funding for the purchase of 63 acres of land that would later become Roswell Area Park.

“For the last couple of years getting shades for the playgrounds, swimming pool and spray grounds has been a priority for the city recreation and parks department and that is what we spend money on last year. I don’t know what our project for this year will be but I would guess shades may still be on the want list,” White said. The festival will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Free shuttle service is provided from Roswell City Hall to the town square park.
