Sophomore Maggie Rick is that setter at Blessed Trinity and a key reason the Lady Titans are ranked No. 1 in the state.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to coach some great setters over the years, but Maggie is the best I’ve ever had,” said Blessed Trinity volleyball coach Paul Stevens. “Maggie does an incredible job of running our offense. We have some amazing hitters on our team and Maggie always puts them in a position to be successful.”
Just 20 matches into her sophomore season Rick is nearing the school record for career assists and is leading the state of Georgia in assists (409) and assists per game (10.23) according to Stevens.
She has also helped her team navigate through a murderer’s row of a schedule without dropping a match. Their wins include triumphs over AAAAAA state powers Chattahoochee (ranked No. 6) and Walton (ranked No. 1 in AAAAAA at the time) — games that saw Rick combine for an astounding 45 assists.
“Even when faced with the adversity of being behind or playing a top team, Maggie remains unflappable, and her demeanor has both a calming and inspiring effect on her teammates,” said Stevens.
