Grant Drakeford - Riverwood

How many different ways can you score in a football game?

Watch Riverwood’s Grant Drakeford for 48 minutes and he’ll put on a clinic.

The junior scored with a pass, a rush, a catch and a punt return to spark the Raiders in their 48-0 blowout of Cambridge Aug. 31.

He completed both his pass attempts for 59 yards and a touchdown, caught one 47-yard touchdown pass, rushed twice for 58 yards and a score and racked up 98 yards and one touchdown on two punt returns and one kickoff return.

“He’s just a ballplayer and I’m glad he’s on my side,” Riverwood coach Robert Ingram said.

Drakeford is seeing occasional time at quarterback, in addition to playing slotback and running back. He was a dangerous return man last season as well for the Raiders, who emphasize the importance of special teams.

“He’s had a lot of success, but he’ll be the first to tell you, because this is the character he has, that he’s got great blocking on those returns,” Ingram said.

It all turned into a huge opening win for Riverwood, which earned its fourth straight victory dating to last season.

“We’ve always finished the season strong but my challenge to them all summer was for us to start strong,” Ingram said.

Drakeford added three touchdowns and 67 yards rushing in Riverwood's 24-14 win over Holy Innocents' Friday, as the Raiders moved to 2-0 on the season.
