Up against one of the top rushing attacks in the state, Johns Creek’s defense held strong on Friday night — limiting the vaunted Milton running game to 71 yards in a 14-9 win.

No player was more important in that effort than Zac Disher, a senior outside linebacker that posted 10 tackles (three for a loss), one sack, and one all-to-important touchdown saving tackle.

“Zac had a great game,” said Johns Creek head coach Mike Cloy. “He basically had containment all night because their two running backs really like to cut back and bounce it outside.”

“He’s great in that role because he is so intelligent and he knows his responsibilities.”

Playing that containment role, Cloy said that Disher made the play of the game when Milton running back Peyton Barber nearly got loose on one of those cutbacks.

“He was the last defender on the outside when [Barber] bounced it out and was trying to get the corner, but Zac made a great play and tracked him down.”

Disher’s performance helped the Gladiators hold Milton to just 139 yards of total offense and was the second straight strong showing from the Johns Creek defense.

Through eight quarters of football they’ve yielded just seven points and 227 total yards.
