EDITOR:

President Barack Obama gives great speeches. In 2008 I was so inspired by his words that I purchased a second cell phone to participate in phone banks on his behalf. Also, my son and I handed out free Obama/Biden bumper stickers.

But, he enabled the too-big-to-fail banks to become even bigger and to persist with their reckless activities. His jobs programs have been insufficient. His health care law is an incremental improvement to a system in need of an overhaul. And, in the face of a juggernaut of corporate influence on our elections, he complained about it but then embraced the big money re-election game, super PACs and all.

This is why I’m supporting the Green Party’s Dr. Jill Stein. She wants to end the corporate purchase of our elections. In her home state of Massachusetts, she fought for the Clean Elections Law. This popular measure limited campaign contributions to $100. Mitt Romney, as governor opposed it and participated in its repeal.

Stein supports free public college education. She would promote jobs programs through infrastructure spending, green energy production and rehiring teachers. Stein, a Harvard-educated doctor, is the only presidential candidate supporting universal health care, a stance with which 79 percent of Americans agree, according to a 2003 poll by ABC News/Washington Post. On the green energy front, 69 percent of us approve of “spending more government money on developing solar and wind power,” according to a March Gallup poll. Stein would deliver on the clean energy jobs that Obama only promised.

Progressives should consider voting for a progressive — Stein.
