She’s focusing on a painting that she has been working on, rhythmically painting a shade of blue that will materialize into a peacock once she adds more color.
Samantha Centers, owner of The Paint Shack Paint Studio, walks over and makes a few suggestions, but for the most part, Nicely works alone.
At the studio, open studio is an option for anyone with a desire to paint with acrylic.
Nicely has been working during open studio hours at the Paint Shack since it opened in June. Her time there has proven beneficial and has helped her stoke the fires of her inner artist.
“It makes you feel like an artist even when you’re not,” Nicely said.
Providing a studio for seasoned and novice artists was the primary motivation for opening the studio, said Centers.
“It helps anybody tap into their creativity,” Centers said.
Before opening the studio, Centers was a stay-at-home mom who used painting as a hobby.
After doing her research, she made the bold move to open the studio, the first of its kind in Bartow County.
The space, which can seat up to 40 people per class, is set to become the premier studio for those who wish to dabble in their own creative juices, either with one of the studio’s three instructors or at their own pace during open studio time.
Open studio hours are Tuesday through Thursday 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday by appointment
“My intention for this place is to have a place for people to get together with their families and friends and have a good time,” Centers said. “I just knew that I wanted to make it amazing. I wanted a fun place. I wanted a place where everybody could come and gather.”|
The studio offers classes for date night, singles night, girls’ night and anything in between. There also are monthly children’s classes, birthday party classes and private parties.
The studio is hosting two events this month. On Sept. 28 at Rose Lawn, will be a Halloween-themed painting event and a fundraising session benefitting the Susan G. Komen Foundation will be Sept. 30. A portion of the registration fee goes toward the cause.
“It’s exciting to be able to offer Bartow County its first art studio,” said head instructor Kimberly Davis Barry.
Davis Barry, who studied art at Valdosta State, said the classes at the studio are designed with every skill level in mind.
“Any level can come in and paint at any artistic level,” she said. “People are amazed at what they are able to do.”
