“We want to introduce the instrument families to students in a fun but educational manner,” said Executive Director Sue Haggerty.
The event will take place Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Wilson Creek Elementary School with Stan the Music Man, a lively character who will introduce the different instrument families to children and help the musicians and Maestro J. Wayne Baughman make music for the crowd.
“Stan is going to be the bridge between the orchestra and the students,” Haggerty said. “This is lighthearted but intelligent.”
Haggerty said the program was made possible in part from a grant from the city of Johns Creek and the orchestra is excited to be able to interact with the children at this event.
The Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra will officially open its sixth season a few weeks after “Meet the Orchestra” at the Johns Creek Arts Festival Oct. 27, but Haggerty said even before the city was incorporated the people in the area had a love for the arts of all varieties.
“We may be a new city but the arts are not new to Johns Creek,” she said.
Wilson Creek Elementary School is at 6115 Wilson Road in Johns Creek. Tickets for “Meet the Orchestra” are $5 and can be purchased at Wilson Creek or online at www.johnscreeksymphony.org.
