The business partnered with the school to provide crucial resources and donations for the duration of the school year as part of its Adopt-A-School program, which was first developed in 1996.
There are two divisions of the program, including Giving and GRADES.
Stonewall Tell is a recipient of the latter, a newer portion created during the 2008-9 school year.
The main difference is that the GRADES program allows the business to be more hands-on with affecting change with curriculum enhancement, community involvement and fundraising.
“We like to help schools that are high achievers academically and with whatever need they have,” said Aislinn Cummings, community relations specialist. “Their academics are top-notch, and it will be a good partnership to meet with them as far as enriching the lives of the students.”
The partnership entitles Stonewall Tell to receive $150 monthly from the business in addition to Cummings remaining active with the school.
“I volunteer every two weeks for up to two or three hours,” she said. “I may work with the various after school programs they offer or offer assistance in the media center.”
Cummings is also busy preparing for the first major fundraising event to be held at the school.
The event will take place at the school on Oct. 26 from 5 to 7 p.m.
“It’s called Fuel Your Fundraiser,” she said. “For every BJ’s membership that is sold, we will give $5 back to the school.”
This fundraiser has proven to be a success at other school’s in the past, said Cummings.
Community involvement is also in the works at Stonewall in conjunction with BJ’s.
A career day is slated for sometime during the school year, during which managers from BJ’s will come to the school and talk to students about what it is like working their jobs and also give talks on money management and how to be a smart consumer.
Additionally, BJ’s will provide resources to the school on an as-needed basis, based upon a list submitted to the business.
Cummings said this list to date had not been received but will probably include items such as snacks for standardized testing and paper.
