Campbell overcame an early double-digit deficit, scoring the final 31 points against Pebblebrook to snap a four-game losing streak with a 31-13 victory at Richard McDaniel Stadium.

Josh Miller had 113 receiving yards, a touchdown and an interception, and Darius Harris rushed for two scores for the Spartans, who notched their first Region 4AAAAAA win and handed Pebblebrook its seventh loss of the season.

Early on, the Falcons (0-7, 0-5 Region 4AAAAAA) appeared on the verge of ending their eight-game losing streak dating to last season, especially after Demetrus Monday returned a punt 57 yards for a 13-0 advantage early in the second quarter.

“When we went down 13, I said, ‘Alright guys we’ve given them their two touchdowns — let’s not let them have any more,’” Campbell coach Harris Rainbow said. “‘Let’s go play,’ and we did and things worked out.”

And it was all Campbell (3-4, 1-4) from there.

On the second play of the ensuing possession, Austin Green hooked up with Josh Miller on a 35-yard passing play before 15 yards were added due to a penalty. Then, Harris burst up the middle and into the end zone for a 15-yard score, cutting the margin to six with 9:09 left in the second quarter.

On Pebblebrook’s next possession, Jude Louissant kept the momentum going when he picked off Dezmond Huntley’s pass at the Falcons 35.

The defense was rewarded 10 plays later when Harris scored a 2-yard touchdown, giving the Spartans a 14-13 edge, and the lead for good, with 3:03 remaining in the half.

Campbell didn’t waste much time adding to its lead in the second half. Ricky James opened the eight-play drive with a 29-yard run and Green extended it with a 12-yard run on a fake punt.

Two plays later, James lobbed a 37-yard pass into the end zone to Miller for a 21-13 advantage with 7:57 left in the third.

From that point on, it was all about the Spartans’ defense, which recovered a pass behind the line of scrimmage by Huntley, intercepted another pass and forced the Falcons to punt away their other two possessions.

“This is a testament to our defensive coaching staff and our defensive kids,” Rainbow said. “We’ve had some real tough weeks the last two weeks against Hillgrove and McEachern. Our defensive staff and defensive kids have really come around and been working hard and it’s finally paying off.”

Perry Seldon had a rushing touchdown for Pebblebrook.
