When Therrell softball coach Paul Perriman needed to slow down the other team’s production, he could depend on his sophomore pitcher Josella Pearson.

“She’s come a long way since last year,” Perriman said. “She stepped up and did a good job this season. She bailed us out of some tough games.”

“When I pitched last year, I wasn’t very consistent like I am this year,” Pearson said.

The right-hander felt like she had her best performance of the season in a 13-3 win over Towers on Sept. 13.

“We were losing so I had to stop the hitting,” she said. “I just started striking them out.”

“Towers had a really good pitcher but she bore down and took care of business,” Perriman said. “I think she is about ready for the next level at softball.”

Pearson helped the Lady Panthers earn a 10-5 overall record and 4-2 mark in sub-region 6B-AAAA but they were unable to qualify for the postseason.

Perriman said scouts from Clark-Atlanta, South Carolina State, Fort Valley State and Tuskegee were really impressed with Pearson’s play.

But now she will turn her full attention to the sport she likes a little more—basketball.
