Even though Landmark Christian quarterback Stockton McGuire is just a freshman, he proved he can be depended on at crunch time.

Against Our Lady of Mercy on Oct. 5, McGuire nailed a 21-yard field goal to force overtime, and in the extra session, he scored a 1-yard touchdown for a 30-24 victory.

“I laid there for a second then I realized we won the game,” McGuire said. “I just got excited, ran down the field and started yelling.”

“Stockton played great,” Landmark coach Wayne Brantley said. “He really came through for us in a crucial part of the game. He ran the 2-minute offense to perfection.”

During the final 76-yard drive in regulation, McGuire completed all five of his passes despite having one of his contacts knocked out on the second play of the drive.

“I wasn’t really focused on anything else but making the throw each play,” McGuire said.

Then once it became time to kick the field goal, McGuire believed it was just an extra point like his holder Ben Baggett told him.

“I took my steps and I told myself do not look up,” McGuire said. “Just look at the ball all the way and count two seconds before you look up.”
