The Ferst Foundation will host its fourth annual Henry Has Talent event on Nov. 3 at 3 p.m.

Henry Has Talent will be at the Henry County Performing Arts Center in McDonough.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under the age of 12.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Ferst Foundation, an organization founded in 1999 with the focus of children’s literacy.

“We want to significantly improve childhood literacy in Henry County,” said Julia Kelly, event chair. “Our main goal is to send free books to every child starting at birth up until five years of age.”

Kelley said the talent show is the organization’s biggest fundraiser, falling just before its Henry Hundred event.

For those with talents, auditions will be Oct. 28, also at the Performing Arts Center.

To audition, participants must complete a registration form and pay a fee, $25 for individuals and $35 for groups.

In past years, Kelley said a wide spectrum of talent has been represented in the show.

“We have quite a range of performers, anywhere from singers, dancers and gymnasts,” she said. “One year we had a ventriloquist and this year we had a mother and daughter duo sign up for the first time.”

Normally, there is an average of 20 to 23 performers, said Kelley.

Winners in first, second and third place will receive prizes.

The first place winner, in particular, will win a cash prize.

Kelley said the second and third place prizes are surprises.

For the past four years on and off, Kelley has been an active volunteer with the Ferst Foundation, although this year is the first time she has chaired the talent show.

Her involvement has continued because she is dedicated to the cause.

“We all know how important childhood literacy is,” she said. “It’s important for children to start school prepared. Everything shouldn’t rely upon our teachers and school system. It starts at home.”

The Henry Performing Arts Center is at 37 Lemon St. in McDonough.
